Wilderness Lodge’s more rustic neighbor Fort Wilderness is a great place for a fun outing — and what more fun activity is there for the whole family than a horse-drawn wagon, carriage or sleigh ride?
Wagon ride: This is the cheaper option, and available year-round. Offered on a first-come, first-serve basis, the 45-minute ride takes you on a tour of Fort Wilderness grounds. Adults are $8, kids are $5. Children under 3 are free. Departs at 7 p.m. and 9:30 p.m. Group wagon rides are $300 for 30 to 35 guests. Advance reservations for a group can be made up to 24 hours in advance – call 407-824-2832.
Carriage rides: This is a great option for a family. It’s a private ride through Fort Wilderness grounds, costing $45 for 25 minutes. Carriages departs from Crockett’s Tavern at Pioneer Hall from 6 to 9:30 p.m. Advance reservations can be made up to 180 days ahead by calling 407-WDW-PLAY. During the fall and winter, ask about the “Haunted” Carriage Rides and “Holiday” Carriage Rides, which both cost $60.
Holiday sleigh rides: This is a newer excursion at Fort Wilderness, first offered during holiday 2009. During December, trips depart from the Blacksmith’s Shop near the Settlement area inside Fort Wilderness for a 25-minute ride. $60 for one group to ride. Call 407-WDW-PLAY to book.
