We here at wildernesslodgesite.com are all Wilderness Lodge fans. However, there’s always debate about which deluxe resort is better going head-to-head with another.
On the surface, Wilderness Lodge doesn’t seem to have much in common with Beach Club Resort. Wilderness Lodge is all Northwoods rustic, while Beach Club is all East Coast beach town. Regardless, we’re going to break down some categories and see how they stack up head-to-head.
Guest Rooms
The rooms at Beach Club evoke a turn-of-the-century beach resort with wrought iron and wood furnishings, while Wilderness Lodge’s rooms have a dark, rustic feel with log furnishings. Wilderness Lodge rooms average about 340 square feet, while Beach Club rooms average about 380 square feet. We’re going to give Beach Club the edge here based on the extra square footage and the light, airy feel. Winner: Beach Club.
Location
Now, both locations are great. Wilderness Lodge feels secluded, but is a boat ride away from the Magic Kingdom. And the Beach Club is just a hop, skip, jump away from either Epcot World Showcase or Hollywood Studios. But because Wilderness Lodge gets the best of both worlds with its secluded but convenient location, along with amenities at nearby Fort Wilderness, we give Wilderness Lodge a slight edge here. Winner: Wilderness Lodge.
Unique Features
A lot of unique features at each of these resorts. Wilderness Lodge has the Fire Rock Geyser, Grand Fireplace in the lobby, Bay Lake Beach and the lobby totem poles. But Beach Club also has a beach, plus the famous Stormalong Bay, which many say is the best pool area on Disney property — complete with lazy river, sandy-bottom pool and one of the largest resort water slides on Disney property. Because the unique features of each are so, well — unique — we’re going to call this category a toss-up. Winner: Tie.
Dining
At Wilderness Lodge, we have Whispering Canyon Cafe, Roaring Fork, and Artist Point. Beach Club boasts Cape May Cafe and the ever-popular Beaches & Cream Soda Shop. Here though, we have to give the edge to Wilderness Lodge. Why? It has its own signature dining restaurant (Beach Club shares the Yachtsman Steakhouse with Yacht Club), and the fun interactive dining at Whispering Canyon. Winner: Wilderness Lodge.
Overall, Wilderness Lodge is a winner, with 2 wins in the dining and location categories and a toss-up in unique features. But we still think the Beach Club and all of Disney World’s deluxe resorts are great.
