Digital Transportation Screen at Wilderness Lodge

Digital Bus Screen

On a recent stay at Disney’s Wilderness Lodge we noticed an addition to the bus waiting area – the digital transportation screen.

These digital screens have been appearing at Disney’s Deluxe resorts over the past year or so and they’re a great addition to the bus stops.

Normally waiting for a Disney Parks bus is basically a guessing game where you stand around and wonder how much longer until the next bus. But with the digital screens most of the guesswork is eliminated.

The screens are updated using GPS technology so if the bus is stuck in traffic the screen will update with a longer wait time. The screens are also a great if you’re trying to get somewhere quickly.

On our recent trip we needed to get to the Animal Kingdom Lodge for a reservation at Boma. Our original plan was to take the but to Disney’s Animal Kingdom and then transfer to a bus heading to the AKL. However, the screen showed at least a 20 minute wait for a bus to the Animal Kingdom so we hopped on the bus to the Magic Kingdom instead and arrived at the AKL with plenty of time to spare!

Of course no amount of technology will ever make the waiting better. On one morning we waited more than 30 minutes for a bus to Epcot while bus after bus arrived for Disney’s Hollywood Studios. The cast member at the bus stop said dispatch was “confused” and forgot to send an Epcot bus to the WL.

Ah, Disney Parks buses. 😉
